Crafting Vinyl for Sewing

Vinyl fabric You may be surprised to learn that vinyl material is easy to work with, but it’s true! There are just a few things to keep in mind when using vinyl fabric for sewing:

1. Vinyl that is flat, with no wrinkles or creases makes it easier to cut and sew, so store your vinyl material rolled up or purchase vinyl fabric rolls.
2. Use clips instead of pins so that you don’t damage your vinyl material with pinholes.
3. Do not iron! Instead, use a blow dryer or steam to remove creases or wrinkles as needed.
4. Vinyl fabric is thicker and heavier than regular fabric, so you'll need to use a heavier needle, such as a denim needle.
5. Use a longer stitch length - too many holes will weaken and cause the vinyl fabric to rip at the seams.
6. Use a teflon foot, roller foot, or walking foot if possible. If you only have your regular presser foot to work with, try placing a piece of masking tape on the bottom of it (making sure to clear the needle area).
